fun with encaustic

A group of us went to visit the new studio of artist Alissa Warshaw.
She works in variety of mediums, and she was generous enough to
show us the process for one of them, encaustic.

Her pretty birds.

Beautiful & colorful blocks of wax for encaustic. Just looking at them
makes one happy!

melting wax on a hot plate

put a paper on it, and..
voila.

They're good first attempts I thought!!

Thanks so much Alissa for having us over.
We had so much fun!!!

Also check out her jewelry here:

kimiko design

Holly and I visited our friend Kimikos's studio today.
She makes beautiful one-of-a-kind pillows using
reclaimed fabrics.

Painstakingly organized tubs of fabric!

Here is just one example of gorgeous pillows she makes.

Check out more of her pillows here.
Thanks for having us over Kimiko, and thanks also
for the tangerines!!!

studio visit

We went to our friend Alissa Warshaw's open studio yesterday.
Her downtown studio has so many neat little stations:
one for jewelry making, one for textile art, one for encaustic art, etc...
It was so inspiring. Thank you Alissa!!
We can't wait to see what you do with your space next!!!
